Academic Workshop on Accident Tolerant Fuels (ATF)

30th Aug. – 1st Sept. 2017

This workshop focuses on the basis and concepts for Accident tolerant fuels (ATF). Accident tolerant fuels have been a strong focus for development since the Fukushima Dai-ichi accident in Japan, with activity focusing on better understanding nuclear reactor materials under accidents, which are outside standard parameters, leading to the development of so-called accident tolerant fuels. This workshop will provide an opportunity, and overview, of the concepts relevant to accident tolerant fuels, based on the material requirements.

Signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Imperial College and Bangor University

Bangor (Prof. David Shepherd, Pro-Vice Chancellor:Research and Enterprise) and Imperial (Prof. Jeff Magee, Dean of Faculty of Engineering) sign Memorandum of Understanding

Imperial College London and Bangor University signed a memorandum of understanding on the 17th June 2016 with the aim of furthering cooperation between the two universities in the field of Nuclear Engineering.
As a result of this agreement, Imperial will provide its long-standing experience in the field to help Bangor develop an academic programme of Nuclear research and teaching. This is in anticipation of nuclear new-build close to Bangor in the form of Horizon Nuclear Power’s Wylfa Newydd project. This will allow Bangor University to provide high quality training in conjunction with well informed and independent nuclear advice during the renewal of nuclear power in the region. » Read more
