Visit Report: Eisteddfod Genedlaethol, Anglesey, 4th-12th August 2017. 🗓
The national Eisteddfod was held on Anglesey this year between Friday 4th and Saturday 12th of August. The Eisteddfod is an annual festival of Welsh culture, literature and music held annually in Wales, it is recognised as the largest cultural contest in Europe and is the second most broadcasted event on the BBC after Wimbledon. Annually the Eisteddfod draws in between 100,000 and 150,000 visitors each year, and there is plenty to explore around the Maes (festival area).
This year our project manager teamed up with Horizon Nuclear Power and attended the Eisteddfod over the first weekend to help promote the opportunities available through Horizon due to the new Wylfa Newydd project. There were many activities to get involved in including a Virtual Reality Rollercoaster which took you on a tour of the new Wylfa Newydd site, which will house 2 Advanced Boiling Water Reactors (ABWRs). Other activites included a green screen where you could get photos with the Horizon characters Jac and Bethan, and a Newton’s Car Race game where you could test your mechanical engineering skills and build a racing car.
